Sharing My World 5/1/18

money-680x365_cDo you use paper money?  I work on a cash basis only and have for a long time. Mostly because of my Dyscalculia… I can’t balance a checkbook to save my life. Seriously. Can’t do it. I’ve used all kinds of computer programs to try and do it but it doesn’t help if you don’t put in the right numbers.  I’ve long since cut up my credit cards and have worked with cash only for years — decades even.  Doug has a credit card and he uses checks and such, but me? If I don’t have the cash for it, well, I don’t buy it. It’s the only way my mind can work.

If so is your money organized sequentially according to denomination? I do organize my paper money from lowest denomination to largest. It makes counting it easier.

snoopy-readingAre You comfortable doing nothing? For long stretches of time?  I am comfortable with doing nothing, but not for long periods of time. Then again, define “nothing”. Some people would consider watching television “doing nothing” and other would consider that a sedentary activity.  I used to have huge arguments with my first husband because he didn’t want our kids “doing nothing” all day — they were reading. Reading! Like, I kept telling them, “Be glad! They’re reading! You dumbshit.” There are scores of people out there who can’t read, and he was complaining about our kids “doing nothing”… He’d also bitch about me doing the same — read for long periods of time. But that was a long time ago.  So yeah, it depends on one’s definition of “doing nothing”. I can spend hours upon hours reading or watching  — something. I can even sit outside and watch the world go by for awhile… I’m good with that. And I can sit and talk to friends for hours. I’m not an active person when it comes down to it.

What is your greatest strength? I’m honest. ^_^

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.   Playing with Photoshop… I keep sneaking pictures in to my posts. I haven’t been doing a whole lot with it lately because I have been kind of fatigued lately, but I have been playing with it. It’s something I enjoy. I’ve been playing Skyrim too and I got my game down to something that’s so pretty and I’m actually playing through the main quest for the first time in a long time. It’s been fun, really.

It’s just so pretty

Original screenshot:

still pretty, but fuzzy and kinda red…

As you can see, I don’t do much, just increase the contrast a bit and make it not look so blurry. Run a few filters, and play around with the levels and curves. I do get creative with some of my screenshots — make the skies more dramatic, take some things out (especially text) and just futz around. But it’s fun and I appreciate that I have the tools to do it.

So many of us have become attached to the ‘card’. We whip out that little plastic doohickey for EVERYTHING. I have had moments now and then when I wonder when that sort of thing took hold. I didn’t really trust them very much and like you, preferred to pay cash (or money order/check) for everything..not because of a perception problem, but because then I KNEW whatever it was was paid for. Somewhere along the line I found myself using the card more and more, and now? I use it for almost everything. Partially because so many don’t take cash or check any more. You get a funny look if you try to offer a check certainly. And nobody seems to know how to figure the change anymore…not if a machine doesn’t tell them how much. Take heart. As I answered that same question…what happens if one day there isn’t electricity or the computers fail? What then?

My problem with credit cards is keeping track of the payments and with how much I have on the credit card. I maxed out all of my credit cards when I had them without even trying and it was then a game of catch up and making minimum payments forever… I may get funny looks whenever I pay cash, but at least I know that I have the money for whatever I’m paying for. ^_^ Doug handles the things like mortgage and stuff.

I need to go to cash only. We’ve discussed it, but haven’t done it yet.
I would probably cheat tho, since I do it with the budget numbers now!

I’ve started tracking my steps, on my phone. Twice now, in a month, I’ve gone a mile!! On Sundays, when we have the girls! VEry proud of that!

I had one too many bounced checks and then *way* too much debt from credit cards that I was having trouble paying back in the day. The bounced checks are what made me go cash only. Dyscalculia strikes again!

There was a time when I couldn’t like things either. I had to clear my browsing history, clean out my local appsdata cache (if you don’t know what that is, ask someone who does), and basically clean out a bunch of “junk” I’d been letting slide on my computer for awhile — cookies and stuff. I also had to uninstall and reinstall Chrome.

      Isn’t modern technology great?

It is… I love it. But you’ve still gotta knock out the “dust” every once in a while if you want it to work correctly. ^_^

I did clear the history, and cookies. Uninstall and install Chrome is a bit beyond me.
After we move, I’ll ask my tech guy, SF, to help me again.
Knock it in the head, you said?? Don’t tempt me!! haha

I used to recommend a program called CCleaner, but they’ve recently been bought out by Avast! and have been installing Avast! on people’s computers with every upgrade, even if we didn’t want it (I don’t like Avast!). So I don’t recommend it anymore — unless you already have Avast!, then go for it. It’s good for cleaning out the bugs. But I seriously hate Avast! (it’s an anti-virus software)
