Miscellaneous Post

I hope y’all don’t get tired of me posting about my baby steps, but it helps me keep track of what I’m doing and I may or may not stick with myfitnesspal. I mean, you never know. The “community” over there is pretty… meh. Other than a few select groups, there’s all kinds of, “What are you doing that for, do it this way, it’s much better.”  If you know what I mean. And you know what, dear reader? I just don’t feel like arguing with online strangers about my health. So I’ll use it as a tracking tool and once in a while post things here if that’s okay with y’all.  This is a journey, and I’m not just talking about the weight loss. I’m trying to get back to a semblance of the woman I was before my thyroid broke on me.  I’m not trying to recapture my past because the past is past, but create, you know a better now. Because, I am not completely happy with the me I am now (even though I’m awesome — I can be more awesome … like awesomer! It’s a word. I just made it up.)

So anyway, I totally exercised again today — same video. AND! I did the dishes! Woohoo! And I didn’t wheeze as much today as I did yesterday, so… progress? I’ll be honest with you, dear reader, the exercise video isn’t all that taxing. If someone is in shape, it will probably not even wind them. But for a beginner like me? Yeah, it’s a good start. My plan is to do this same video until it *doesn’t* wind me then move to a different video — maybe Sweatin’ to the Oldies  or something like that.

And on a completely unrelated note, I found something to help my poor eyes.  One of the things I love about reading on the computer is the fact that I can scroll to make the font on the screen bigger or smaller to fit my needs, but I hate the bright screens. Hate them. They strain my eyes like no one’s business. And things like Facespace and WordPress do not have a “night” or “dark” setting, so I found this extension for Chrome called “Night Eye” which OMG y’all, it’s so soothing for me. Like every website I go to is now nice and dark. I’ve only had it in for a few days, but I’m loving it.  I’ll have to pay for it after three months, but for $40, I think it’s worth it.  I mean look at what my Facespace is like right now:

Nice and dark! I love it.

Of course I have a dark theme for Google, so that helps too.  I have to say though, I’m digging the dark background. I remember when personal computers were still all in DOS and everything was a dark green background with either white or yellow text. Then it all changed and my eyes did not like that change at all. Now I can have it back again. Yay!

Kindle Oasis via Amazon

My Kindle fire is slowly dying, and was thinking of getting a new Kindle, but not a fire because I totally don’t need a tablet, and I don’t like that it’s back lit. But the Kindles are freaking tiny y’all! I mean, like five to seven inches total. I suppose that’s meant to imitate the book size, but damn, that’s small. As I said before, one of the things I like about reading on the computer is the ability to change the size of the font.  The biggest one (seven inches) is like $250 or something! But it’s not back lit like the Kindle fire. I never used the Kindle Fire for anything but downloading and reading books, so there’s no reason for me to get anything but a Kindle if that’s all I’m using it for.  And, when it comes to that… I haven’t actually used my Kindle for a while, so there’s that. I just haven’t been in a reading mood.

And that’s my randomness for the day. I hope those who celebrate have a good Thanksgiving. Doug is still in bed, that’s how he celebrates having the day off, by sleeping in until after noon (it’s just after noon right now).  I’m gonna play some Skyrim, and we’re just gonna relax. Because that’s what we do. 🙂

I use “My Fitness Pal” too…but just for the recipes it shares, because one day maybe I’ll actually USE some of them. Congrats on the ‘baby steps’…it’s a start and the fact that you’ve STARTED is awesome(r). 😉 Happy Thanksgiving (a day late, but hey. A lot of folks took yesterday off)…Doug has the right idea! 😉

Willow, so proud of you!! Progress, not perfection! Doing it 2 days in a row is a win! And wheezing less is a double win! I will never tire of hearing about your baby steps, I’m here to cheer you on!
    Doug is a smart man!

Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I am also on the same quest. Weight loss with hypothyroidism is difficult. Take extra effort and will.

Yup! Working on it! It seems to me that I have been working to reduce my weight at least half my life. But it is so gratifying when I do manage it.

Your journey is your journey, and I agree that it’s pointless to argue with those people who don’t understand your health issues.
In other news, I have a Kindle Fire that I bought a couple of years ago and never use. I like my Paperwhite much better. If you decide you can use another Fire, I would be happy to give you mine.

Thanks for the offer, but like you, I hardly ever use mine anymore. I will probably go with a Kindle that’s not back lit if I do replace it. I do appreciate the offer though.
